Expect lots of backstabbing and skullduggery this week as Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz meets with, among others, rookie Alds. Marsha Rummel and Michael Schumacher, County Exec Kathleen Falk (twice!), former UW-Madison dean of student Mary Rouse, Developer Richard Munz, one-time mayoral aspirant Nino Amato and radio guy Lee Rayburn.
Then prepare to be disappointed, since there is nothing remotely nefarious about any of these meetings -- aside, of course, from the secret backroom deals and delivery of suitcases full of cash -- not!
The most interesting meetings may be the two sessions, Monday and Friday, with Falk, city alcohol czar Joel Plant and the mayor's chief of staff Janet Piraino. Office spokesperson George Twigg says the purpose of these meetings is to find new ways to shake down Madison bar owners, using unemployed actors from HBO's The Sopranos.Scratch that. Twigg says the Monday meeting is a regular monthly powwow between Falk and key staff in the mayor's office, and the Friday meeting is to discuss the joint city-county health department. "One of the new and exciting things about a joint health department," confides Twigg, "is that Dave and Kathleen have to agree on what their budget is going to be."
