Mayor Dave Cieslewicz participates in a conference call Monday afternoon for something called the Mayors Innovation Project. Whazzat?
The Mayors Innovation Project (MIP) is a learning network among American mayors committed to "high road" policy and governance: shared prosperity, environmental sustainability, efficient democratic government.
The MIP, started by Mayor Dave with UW Prof. Joel Rogers in 2005, is set to hold its annual meeting here in Madison at the end of July. In keeping with previous MIP meetings, the agenda includes four "big" topics: Transportation Choices, Community Supported Agriculture, Inclusive Neighborhoods and Federal Funding Opportunities.
Madison does pretty well with the first two, boasting one of the finest bike path systems in the country and an exploding CSA scene. But what about inclusive neighborhoods? As much as many progressive Madisonians hate to admit it, we're staring down a D in that class.
