The committee will spend two nights discussing Mayor Dave Cieslewicz's proposed $154 million capital budget. Cieslewicz included money for a new downtown library ($1.7 million), a new 570-stall downtown parking garage ($1.2 million) and beaucoup street improvements ($28 million). Monday night's meeting will focus on Madison Metro, the libraries, the Police and Fire departments, and the Water Utility. Tuesday night the committee will consider funding for Traffic Engineering, the Parking Utility, and Streets.
Madison Election Advisory Committee

The committee debriefs after Tuesday's low-key primary, before continuing its discussion of the Big One in November.
Dane County Board of Supervisors
Wednesday, Sept. 10, 6 p.m.

The board holds a public hearing on the 2009 budget. Which you haven't seen yet, because County Executive Kathleen Falk doesn't release it until Oct. 1.
Common Council Organizational Committee

Ald. Zach Brandon is leaving the city council to devote himself full-time to his new, top post at the state Commerce Department. On Wednesday, the committee reviews the applications of six people who want to replace him. They include a former alder, a retired state employee and a member of the Wisconsin Air National Guard.
By far the best application was submitted by Richard O'Neill, who works for the Wisconsin Division of Health Care Financing. O'Neill not only misspelled Common Council President Tim Bruer's last name - he called him "Brewer" in his cover letter - he also listed among his experience his work as a part-time model for the Rock Modeling Agency. Frankly, the Common Council could use some prettying up.

Zoning Code Rewrite Community Meeting
Thursday, Sept. 11, 6:30 p.m.
Goodman Community Center and Overture Center
The city holds two public hearings simultaneously to get public input on its zoning code rewrite. The zoning code was last updated in 1966, so a few things are out of date.
