Media are reporting that Madison’s Oscar Mayer plant will be closed by its parent company, the newly merged Kraft Heinz Co.
As Jay Rath reported for Isthmus in June, the company has been in Madison since 1919 and the city has served as its headquarters since 1957. The closure of Dane County’s largest manufacturer will put about 1,000 people out of work. Rath’s story chronicles the company’s history here and how much it has meant to the city.
