A lawsuit is filed against Gordon Sussman and his former wife by the young man Sussman was convicted in 2005 of having sexually molested as a child. The suit says Sussman's ex-wife should have known of his sexual interest in young boys. Sussman, 57, who maintains his innocence, is in prison until at least 2013.

UW Hospital is sued by Disability Rights Wisconsin over two cases in which it withheld treatment from developmentally disabled patients, one of whom died. The hospital says it acted in the patients' best interests, in consultation with their families.
A special city of Madison committee recommends a new $43.6 million Central Library proposed by the Fiore Companies. The Madison Library Board and Common Council must also weigh in; then all the city has to do is come up with the money.

Brian Smart, the vice president of Smart Motors in Madison, dies at age 52. Smart represented the third generation of his family to run the dealership. "He grew up in the business," the State Journal quotes company general manager Allen Foster saying. "He liked to tell people how he used to shovel coal in the furnaces."

A team of four juniors from Madison West high school snares first place in a national model rocket competition in Virginia, sending a rocket 750 feet into the air and returning with its raw-egg payload intact. The students win a trip to a Paris air show.
Francesca Weber, 47, dies after being shot in her Fitchburg apartment. Police put out a national alert for Steven J. Weber, who reportedly vowed to go "on a shooting rampage" following the couple's divorce earlier that week. He was facing trial on charges that he beat Francesca and the couple's youngest daughter late last year.

The Milwaukee Brewers announce that second baseman Rickie Weeks, a big part of why the team now leads its division, is out for the season with a wrist injury - which he got, tragically, while striking out.
Gregory F. Seidlitz, 35, a former military police officer in Madison, is sentenced to three years of probation, including six months in jail and six more on home monitoring, for possession of child pornography. "It's sick, it's demented, it's not normal," Judge James Martin informs him.
Tuesday, 5.19
Several dozen law enforcement officers from multiple jurisdictions descend on Hoyt Park in Madison after the truck of murder suspect Steven J. Weber is discovered nearby. The 911 Center sends out a 739-call alert advising area residents to stay in their homes and lock their doors. The SWAT teams find Weber around 7 pm, long dead from an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.
