Word of Mouth: May 28

From your friends at Isthmus, Madison's alt-weekly.

Who we're following

Victoria Boucher, campaign director at Community Shares of Wisconsin:

@raleighshillsidefarm on Instagram. I am encouraged by their initiative to live out their values, build community, and support our local environmental movement through their work on the farm. I joined their CSA last year and was wowed by the abundant produce I received each week accompanied by creative recipes. Last week they launched a Climate Change Challenge via social media to encourage people to change their behaviors and take action in ways that are good for our planet and our community.

What we're watching

Jeri Casper, Isthmus web analyst/advertising assistant:

Over the weekend I watched the hotly-anticipated debut show of new pro wrestling organization All Elite Wresting (AEW). Double or Nothing was start-to-finish riveting, with mind-blowing surprises (Awesome Kong! Jon Moxley!) and exceptional wrestling from a diverse roster of extraordinary athletes. This company is poised to change the game of professional wrestling. Even Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez thinks so.

Where we're shopping

Kori Feener, Isthmus videography director:

I learned of Freecycle when I lived in Massachusetts, but hadn't really utilized it until I moved to Madison last year. Reuse and recycle is applied to a non-capitalist approach of gifting out what you no longer need. I've found amazing storage items for our basement, a working dehydrator for our herbs and found new homes for a chemistry set and excess hosta plants.

What we're drinking

A message from the HopCat Madison cat:

I’m at HopCat drinking Wisconsin’s own Bos Meadery Hammer Smashed Cherry "mead made metal" session mead. Heck, it must be metal if the cherries are smashed with a hammer. It’s even got a skull on the label. Rock! Don’t let that fool you though. This 6.5% combination of honey, water and Door County cherries tastes like heaven. Fizzy, fruity, but not too sweet. Black cats hate sweet. Meow.

What we're listening to

Darren Bush, owner of Rutabaga Paddlesports:

John Coltrane's new set of vinyl Coltrane '58: The Prestige Recordings played on some '70s vintage audio gear I picked up last year. It is an amazing remaster. If you don't want to drop the dollars on the vinyl, it's available streaming, too. SO good. I'm out of superlatives.

What we're eyeing

Chelsey Dequaine, Isthmus social media director:

A Saris bike rack. I bought a pumpkin orange Subaru Crosstrek back in October (first time buying a new car, so thanks to Don Miller), and now I'm in need of a bike rack to get the most out of summer road trips. Saris is local, too! They're based out of Fitchburg, so I'm excited to further investigate their options.

What we're reading

Rachel Werner, content marketing specialist at Taliesin Preservation:

I'm consistently pushing beyond a reasonable bedtime as I soak up every emotionally-delish morsel of Emily Nunn's candid memoir The Comfort Food Diaries. The former Chicago Tribune reporter and New Yorker editor weaves her personal memoir around recipes of the most tantalizing Southern nibbles you may have never heard of, but seem worth a foodie road trip as soon as time and budget will allow.
