What we're eating
Jordan and Mike, founders of Midwest Munchers:
Honestly, I wish we could say that we’re eating something healthy and local like asparagus, but the truth is that we’re currently eating a ton of fried pickles. We love the ones at Me & Julio’s. The fried pickles are slices, not spears, and as a fried pickle connoisseur that is an important distinction to make. The sliced pickles hold their crunch. We typically go for happy hour since all apps are 30 percent off every weekday from 3-6 p.m.

What we're reading
Abby Bartlett, vice president of marketing at Wisconsin Distributors:
My travels this year took me to the East Coast and West Coast where I learned about sustainable and unsustainable foods. With these trips in mind, I snagged a copy of The Omnivore's Dilemma. Michael Pollan explores the way Americans eat and how it has shaped our health. I'm now on the hunt for recipes that don't include corn, proteins that weren't injected with saltwater or hormones, and still something my kids will actually enjoy.

What we're listening to
Stephen Coss, Isthmus advertising assistant:
Electronic rock/dreampop duo Phantogram recently returned with their first new music since 2016. The two incredible new singles "Into Happiness" and "Mister Impossible" bring back the heavy rhythm and bass sounds from Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel's catchy choruses. "Into Happiness" is my personal favorite, and one of my favorite songs the band has ever done. It's dynamic, hopeful and a total jam. I'm excited for their show at The Sylvee on Aug. 27!

What we're watching
Devin Renner, marketing director at True Coffee Roasters:
The Last Czars on Netflix. It’s a docudrama about the reign and demise of Nicholas II, the last Czar of Russia before the communists take over. Essentially it’s the story of what happens when a leader is woefully out of touch with his country and is more concerned with serving his own ego than the needs of his people. Not that any of us could relate to a leader like that ...

What we're drinking

Drinking with the Beer Cat:
I’m not a huge fan of spotted cats, but I do occasionally enjoy a Spotted Cow. Brewed by New Glarus Brewing Company, this farmhouse-style American cream ale sure hits the "spot." It’s naturally cloudy, smooth, and a touch fruity with just a hint of hops. You can get your paws on one at HopCat today. It’s only available in Wisconsin, but that just means more for me-ow. Now, the question is, what kind of cheese to pair it with?
