Steve Hiniker
Monday was opening night at the new Memorial Union Terrace beer counter.
Yesterday evening I found myself on the Memorial Union Terrace. I was having a high level policy meeting there.
Turned out that it was opening night for the fancy new beer counter, which I just happened to walk up to right at the moment that the first brews were being served. It's made of fieldstone and has granite counter tops. Very nice. There was a woman taking pictures to commemorate the event for the Union. I asked if I could get my picture taken. She said sure. Then she walked away and forgot. Luckily my friend Steve Hiniker happened by and took the historic photo at right.
On my way back to my table a woman stopped me and we had the following conversation, which I recount as it happened.
Woman: "Excuse me. Are you a Realtor?"
Me: "No. No, I'm not a Realtor."
Woman: "But you were a Realtor?"
Me: "No. I was never a Realtor."
Woman: "A lender then?"
Me: "No. Never a Realtor or a lender."
Woman: "But you look so familiar."
Me: "Well, I used to be mayor."
(Pause.)
Woman: "No, that's not it."
