Fan mail
As a Madisonian for the last seven years, I've had my ups and downs with your paper. My first two years in town I was an overzealous fan, in love with the city and the paper, reading each week cover to cover from articles to calendar listings. As time went on, I became jaded, finding quibbles in everything from "Watchdog" to restaurant reviews.
This context is important in my note of congratulations for your fantastic coverage [of recent events]. When the proverbial shit hit the fan, your publication has risen to the challenge. I was greeted this week with a fresh perspective. The lack of business support for protesters has been a concern of mine, and I was happily surprised to see this addressed ("Watchdog," 3/4/11), along with many other articles of special concern.
Thank you for the fresh take on matters drawing many of us to the Capitol each day.

Thank you for not advertising
I am distressed to see the full-page ads for cigarettes and smokeless tobacco in Isthmus. Taking money to tout something as dangerous as tobacco diminishes the credibility of everything else in your paper. Please reconsider printing these ads.
