21: Laurence Fishburne, Jim Sturgess and Kevin Spacey star in the true story of M.I.T. students who took Las Vegas for millions. Despite a few good performances, the film is reminiscent of Vegas itself: lots of glitz and little substance.

The Last Winter: In Larry Fessenden's psychological horror movie about the effects of global warming, an advance team of oil-company workers stakes out Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for possible drilling sites, but it isn't long before people start acting kind of strange. The movie isn't particularly scary on a gut level, but intellectually it's as scary as hell, substituting the natural world for the supernatural world.
