The Duck Pond at Warner Park, home of the array of appearances, events and giveaways, which will last through the end of the season in August.
One of the strangest stunts, though, took place more than two years ago. In May 2005, just a couple of weeks before the baseball season started, Dr. Chris Kammer of the Center for Cosmetic Dentistry conducted a root canal on home plate at the Duck Pond. The demonstration, which of course was captured on video, was part of the inaugural National Root Canal Appreciation Day, an event launched by Kammer and lauded by Wisconsin Gov. Doyle and Madison Mayor Dave Cieslewicz. This followed another promotion during a Mallards game in 2004 in which 5,991 fans broke the record for simultaneous tooth-brushing.
This two-and-a-half-minute video of baseball diamond dental surgery follows below.
The Mallards are offering a trio of lures for this weekend's home stand. British actor Peter "Chewbacca" Mayhew will be appearing at the game on Friday evening; the Saturday game will feature a Harley display and throwback uniforms; and on Sunday attendees will be able to play catch in the outfield. More details are available here on TDPF.
