"OK, seriously, in my humble opinion, Baghdad Scuba Review was awesome."
So declares Brenda Konkel in a report on the Madison band's trip to Summerfest last week. Of course, she's not any old fan of the jam sextet. "What else did you expect me to say? My boyfriend is the percussionist," notes the Madison alder.
In fact, Konkel shot a pair of live concert videos from the band's performance at Summerfest. Both follow below, starting with a clip of them performing "Scuba Snacks." "The self-described 'progressive rock' band mixed up their set with catchy covers and original tunes," notes another attendee at the show in Milwaukee. "Halfway through their set, the band went backstage only to return wearing T-shirts that sent out a strong message against the war in Iraq." A second brief clip shot by Konkel features Baghdad Scuba Review performing their original song "Red Sky." Other videos of the sextet in action include another outdoors clip shot by Aaron Veentra (from the 2006 WSUM Party in the Park), as well as a more recent look at the band on stage. Baghdad Scuba Review will be playing tonight (Tuesday, July 10) at Mr. Roberts on Atwood. Then they're off for a couple of weeks until the end of the month, when they will be returning to the east-side venue on Thursday, July 26; they'll be outside again the following Sunday for Atwood Summerfest. More upcoming shows and music by the group can be found on their MySpace page, and they'll be releasing their new album, Testing the Waters, before the end of the year.
