If you've been watching nighttime basic cable in the Madison market -- okay, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report -- then you've likely seen a series of odd little commercials promoting Bovinus spiritualis, or the hodag. This is one of Wisconsin's native fearsome critters, prominent as a symbol for entities ranging from Oneida County to the UW ultimate frisbee team. The commercials are part of a winter tourism campaign conducted by the Rhinelander Area Destination Marketing Committee, complete with a stab at a viral video contest.
