Though The Bird of Night was one of the final works shown at the Wisconsin Student Short Films screening at the 2007 Wisconsin Film Festival, it was one of the more memorable. Created by UW-Milwaukee MFA student Alan Schoenburg, this ghostly animated work impressed the festival jury and was awarded the Best Wisconsin Experimental Short Film for its world premiere.
Schoenburg explains the idea behind his work: "The Bird of Night is a one minute long exploration of the poem of the same name written by Randall Jarrell. The poem is a moody look into the life of a lonely creature, and I tried to capture the poem's uneasiness through both image and sound."
