Farewell: In this true story, a KGB agent (Emir Kusturica) leaks earthshaking documents to a nervous French engineer (Guillaume Canet). Kusturica and Canet's scenes together are wonderful in this fascinating look at Soviet life in the late Brezhnev era.
Rabbit Hole: After their child is killed in an auto accident, a husband and wife (Aaron Eckhart, Nicole Kidman) drift apart. Director John Cameron Mitchell is known for provocations like Shortbus, but this is a fine, restrained melodrama.
