Sex and the City 2: New York's most famous girlfriends (Kim Cattrall, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, Kristin Davis) struggle with marriage, family and middle age, then jet off to Abu Dhabi for a luxurious getaway. This light comedy has enjoyable moments and ghastly ones; it's never emotionally engaging in the way the TV series was.
Winter's Bone: In poverty-stricken rural Missouri, a 17-year-old girl (Jennifer Lawrence) tries to track down her father, a meth cooker on the lam. Striking photography and a moving performance by Lawrence make this film haunting and vivid.
