The Extra Man: The fired prep school teacher Louis (Paul Dano) rents a room from an aging would-be playwright (Kevin Kline) who escorts rich old women. The film doesn't explore Louis' struggle with his confused sexuality in as uncomfortable a manner as Jonathan Ames' novel, leaving this an appealing comic trifle.
The Kids Are All Right: The teenage children of two women (Annette Bening, Julianne Moore) seek to meet the guy (Mark Ruffalo) who provided half their genes. The narrative may be an attempt to show that gay marriage's bumps and bruises are just like straight marriage's, but that only means it's too familiar a story.
