The Hoax: Lasse Hallström's movie about Clifford Irving (Richard Gere) has some wonderful moments, as Irving tries to sell an "autobiography" of Howard Hughes that he wrote without ever meeting the reclusive billionaire. But the movie adds a whole new layer to the story involving the Nixon administration, and what had already seemed farfetched suddenly has neither foot on the ground.
A Mighty Heart:This docudrama offers a blow-by-blow account of the effort to rescue Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter who was kidnapped and beheaded by Muslim extremists. Angelina Jolie gives a strong performance as Pearl's wife, and the movie does an outstanding job of capturing Pakistan's immensely complex political climate in the immediate aftermath of 9/11.
