The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus: A shambling old mystic (Christopher Plummer) is joined by a dashing mystery man (Heath Ledger) in a struggle for souls with the devil (Tom Waits). Director Terry Gilliam's design is typically dazzling, his storytelling typically chaotic.

It's Complicated: A soon-to-be empty nester (Meryl Streep) has a fling - with the man she divorced 10 years ago (Alec Baldwin). The set-up is vintage farce, and the scenes work because director Nancy Meyers has a keen sense with actors.
