It would be next to impossible to make it through Wisconsin when the weather is nice and not smell bratwursts on a grill. The chances of stumbling upon Kuchen (several different types of pastries, desserts, and cakes), Bienenstich ("bee sting cake"), sauerbraten (beef roast in gravy), or knodel (potato dumpling) are less likely, unless you're actually seeking them out. Fortunately, these treats and others can be found at Wisconsin festivals - these specifically at Milwaukee's German Fest. The season begins with odes to Mexico and morel mushrooms and closes with with beer - Oktoberfest - and fruit festivals for cranberries and apples. We recommend confirming event details before making any long drives. more
