media release: Centro’s “mercado” community market restarts July 25, to mark its 10-year anniversary! Making use of Centro’s new exterior and interior plaza at 2403 Cypress Way and seizing this gorgeous weather, Mercadito is ready to take on the rest of the summer and bring the familiar, delicious and nostalgic Latin-American flavors to the Southside of Madison. 

Mercadito was created 10 years ago with the goal of holding a space where Latinx throughout Dane County would be able to find traditional Latin American products from local Latinx producers. Centro wants to keep opening this space where families can gather and have a sense of community, a symbol of authentic community engagement where everyone can come, get to know flavorful ingredients, share advice in community, grow social connections, and add some spice to their Thursday afternoons. 

In addition to the vibrant market stalls, this year’s Mercadito will feature live music performances from local musicians, offering a festive atmosphere that invites everyone to dance and celebrate life. The market aims to be a sensory experience, where the sounds, smells, and tastes of Latin America come to life in the heart of Madison and in Dane County. 

With Mercadito 2024, Centro hopes to contribute to a more sustainable future. The 10-year anniversary of Mercadito is not just a celebration of delicious food, but also a commitment to community resilience, strength and sustainability.
