media release: The Madison Brass Band proudly presents an outstanding concert of brass band music entitled “European Vacation” on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the as part of the Arts at First Concert Series at First United Methodist Church in Madison, Wisconsin.
The group is led by Musical Director John Lynch, an esteemed international wind band conductor and director of bands and professor of music at the UW-Stevens Point. The Master of Ceremonies is Jim Hoyt, professor emeritus, UW-Madison School of Journalism.
The Madison Brass Band takes you on a sonic vacation abroad following the stunning performance of our U.S. athletes in the Paris Summer Olympics. We’ll feature the “Olympic Fanfare” by John Williams, George Gershwin’s “An American in Paris,” exciting cutting edge new brass band works from England and France, Edward Elgar’s gorgeous “Nimrod,” and concluding with Resphigi’s “Pines of Rome.” Principal solo cornetist Matt Sundell will be featured on the festive Napoli. Hop across the pond with us for a musical European Vacation!

About Madison Brass Band: Founded in 2002, this group of talented amateur musicians has earned recognition for their outstanding performances, including appearances at prestigious events like the Wisconsin State Convention of the National Band Association and the Wisconsin State Music Conference. In 2012, they ventured into competitive Brass Band events and achieved Champion of the Second Section in their first NABBA Competition. The band's dedication is further exemplified by their collaborations with renowned clinicians including Phillip Harper, Joe Parisi, Scott Teeple, Colin Holman, and Mark Taylor. Under the direction of Musical Director John Lynch, the band continues to thrive with outstanding performances and a commitment to musical innovation.
