150-plus bottles and 18 tap beers. Some are rare. There are plenty of local favorites. Drafts are dispensed through three imported European beer towers. No food, although you can have pizza or whatever delivered.

Whiskey rebellion: Madison's feisty pour houses
Whiskeys have character. There are rugged rye whiskeys that taste like exotic fruit, Scotch whiskeys that smell like torched rubber bands, and beguiling bourbons that rear up with alcohol blooms so hot they have the flavor of, well, burning. Establishments that are good for sipping whiskey are ones that have character too. Sure, you can get a shot of Jameson almost anywhere, but for the serious business of a good pour, Madison has a few bars with just the right requirements.

The Malt House keeps the focus on the brews
The recently opened Malt House at the corner of East Washington Avenue and Milwaukee Street is receiving high praise from those seeking the perfect pint. There are two big reasons: It serves an ever-changing beer list with more than 170 bottle and tap selections. And those beers are served over what may be the oldest wooden bar in the city.
