Company
12/5-15, Overture Center-Playhouse, at 7:30 pm Thursday-Friday and 2 pm Saturday-Sunday. $38-$30.
media release: COMPANY—Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s groundbreaking musical comedy—is at once boldly sophisticated, deeply insightful, and downright hilarious. It’s Bobby’s 35th birthday party, and all his friends keep asking, “Why aren’t you married? Isn’t it time to settle down and start a family?” An examination of the choices we make about life, love, and friendship, Company takes us through the gamut of emotions “sorry-grateful, regretful-happy.”
Tickets ($30, $38) available through the Overture Center Box Office in person, at (608) 258-4141 or at http://www.overture.org. Student Tickets are $25, limit two per Student ID. Run time: 2 hours 20 minutes with one 15-minute intermission.
Directed by Sarah Marty and music directed by Thomas Kasdorf, COMPANY features a cast of talented local singers and actors. Lighting design by Matt Albrecht. Stage management by Alissa Berman.
Of note, our cast includes three real-life couples who will be playing couples onstage in the show: Sarah Blakeslee and Kevin Blakeslee as Susan and Peter, Kate Jajewski and Dan Jajewski as Amy and Paul, and Isabel Celata and Zak Wolff as Jenny and David. COMPANY first premiered on Broadway in 1970 and was so acclaimed that it was nominated for 14 Tony Awards and won six of them, a record at the time. Written in 1970, Company was revolutionary in exploring dating and relationships in the modern age, when phones and the fast-paced world of New York City have made it seemingly impossible to find a real connection. Always relevant it has been revived on Broadway several times, including most recently in 2021 when it won an additional 5 Tony Awards.
This is a facility rental event presented by an independent organization separate from Overture Center for the Arts.
