Remember when the Left owned the franchise for mass rallies? Just as Target and WalMart have taken over the retail crown from Sears and Penney's, so has the conservative/libertarian movement eclipsed our leftist friends.
The Left reached back into its institutional memory banks for chestnuts stored in the 1960s to throw up a hail mary called "One Nation Working Together," Saturday, at the National Mall in Washington, exactly one month before the November 2 general election.
The president of the NAACP, the aptly named Benjamin Jealous, describes it as "the antidote to the tea party."
But it more resembled the staged rallies Our Glorious Leader holds in the northern part of Korea. No small business people?
They took buses from Philadelphia and carpooled from Santa Fe. They were old and young, black and white, Hispanic and Asian. The 400 plus groups in attendance represented agendas ranging from the environment to religion, unions to LGBT rights.
And Leftists, every one. Among the speakers Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, union boss Richard Trumka ... need I say more? Yeah, real unifiers.
The event was sponsored by AFL-CIO, Service Employees International Union, National Council of La Raza, Sierra Club, Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays and -- lest we forget ... the Communist Party USA.
A true cross-section of America, that.
I did not car pool but tuned the Blaska Blogoscreen to C-Span. From what I could see it was the teachers union rally. American Federation of Teachers boss Randi Weingarten and National Education Assn president Dennis Van Roekel shouted at the podium in favor of upholding what is truly important about education. That being, the continuance of organized labor control over the public education monopoly.
"One nation working together?" CNN reports that Jealous did invite "a well-known conservative to speak at Saturday's rally, but refused to reveal the name of the person," but it don't matter. S/he "is not going to address the gathering."
The WaPost estimated 175,000 attended; much less than Glenn Beck's 500,000 five weeks ago.
Got Socialism?
Throngs of Leftists marched at the One Nation Rally chanting: 'Obama Ain't No Socialist. We Are! We Are!'
Does money equal educational achievement?
Only the people who attended the socialist rally in Washington Saturday believe that any more.
A true maverick?
Then why is he the Left's favorite senator? The Appleton Post-Crescent reports:
A liberal Democratic activist group has raised $500,000 for U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold's campaign in less than 48 hours. The group, MoveOn.org, which claims more than 5 million members, has made Feingold's re-election its top priority. In addition to fundraising, the group is trying to recruit 1,000 volunteers to help the Middleton incumbent, who faces a surprisingly stiff challenge from Republican Oshkosh businessman Ron Johnson.
This is what is meant by 'eco-fascism'
Someone in the United Kingdom thought this was a great idea for a public service commercial promoting environmentalism. Unintentionally, it provided a window into the Brave New World of state-mandated eco-fascism.
