Here we go, kicking off our summer fun, which means, of course, fun for you. We're talking block parties and polls, beers and Madison's Favorites.
To wit: Tonight (Thursday, June 10) is the first of three block parties hosted by Isthmus and sponsored by Wisconsin Distributors - the folks who bring you beer (and other spirits) for your social enjoyment. This inaugural party in the street will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. on the 100 block of West Main, one of the most social blocks in Madison, considering the fine establishments that proliferate there. We'll be adding to the attractions with some live music by the popular Cash Box Kings.
The featured beverages will be Goose Island, Bud Light, Bud Light Lime and Stella Artois. Doing the pouring will be volunteers from Porchlight, a local agency that serves the homeless. Porchlight will receive a portion of the beer receipts and whatever you leave behind in the tip jars.
On Thursday, July 8, we will convene with the same format at the top of State Street, with music from the Midwest Beat and Elf Lettuce. On Aug. 19 we'll be on East Main Street listening to Mighty Short Bus and drinking more beer from Wisconsin Distributors.
And yes, it is time for the polling to begin. On pages 30 and 31 you'll find this year's Madison's Favorites poll. Though we are running it in print to get your attention, we'd appreciate it if you filled it out online at TheDailyPage.com/favorites. This makes it a lot easier for us to tally the responses. You'll find instructions both in the paper and online. The poll results are the featured content for August's Annual Manual.
We'll see you at the block party and/or await your response to Madison's Favorites.
