The Capitol Hill Apartments building at 24 North Webster Street, in the heart of downtown Madison, was the scene of a major fire early Thursday morning, with dozens of firefighters responding to the scene.
Reported shortly after 5 a.m., the blaze quickly consumed all four levels of the building, which houses Underground Kitchen and Muse Independent Styling hair salon on its ground floor, and 24 units of apartments above.
More details about the fire are provided in this report from the Wisconsin State Journal. Additional first-hand reports from the fire were tweeted live this morning by Madison-based comedian Nick Mortensen.
The gallery above features several photos of the scene. The first two, shot from the Capitol Point Condominiums across the street, show flames and smoke breaching through the building's roof. The following five show the scene from the ground, as seen from the corners of East Washington Ave. and Webster St., as well as East Mifflin St. and North Butler St.
This video, shot from the top of the Capitol Point condo by Bob Hemauer at around 8:30 a.m., shows firefighters battling flames from the bucket of a ladder truck.
Additionally, WISC-TV reporter Jessica Arp shot and published a video of the blaze, as viewed from another balcony at the Capitol Point condos.
