The first question that creeps in after surveying Mayor Dave Cieslewicz's weekly schedule today is, "Who are the Blue Heels and why is Mayor Dave going to their CD release party?"
Good question. A lot of CDs get released in this town each year, so it's fair to wonder why the mayor, a proponent of "buy local" policies, would make it a point to check out a band that hails from Neenah. The Blue Heels are a pretty solid band many might classify as twangy or rootsy or alt-country or Americana. They've got a jam-packed schedule over the next few months which includes several stops here in Madison.
But if anything can be learned about bands Mayor Dave has openly supported in the past, don't expect the Blue Heels to be around very long. The Junkers played a fundraiser for Cieslewicz four years ago and they are, sadly, defunct. As are The Profits, a band the mayor hyped to anyone in earshot a couple years ago.
Enjoy it while it lasts, Blue Heels. Unfortunately, you've been cursed.
