Carolyn Porter
press release: A font, a Frenchman, and fate were the inspirations for Verona native and author Carolyn Porter. Porter will discuss her book, Marcel’s Letters: A Font and the Search for One Man’s Fate, at the Verona Public Library on Thursday, April 5, from 7 to 8 p.m.
A stack of beautifully penned letters that Porter found in a Minnesota antique store 60 years after they were written, led Porter on a twofold journey: transforming the handwriting into a modern computer font, and uncovering what happened to the letters’ author, a Frenchman interred in a German labor camp during World War II. Porter recounts her undertaking in her new book A Font and the Search for One Man’s Fate. Books will be available for sale and signing.
