Professor Hélio Seixas Guimarães is one of the most distinguished faculty members in Brazil's top-ranked program in Brazilian literature at the University of São Paulo. He is a leading authority on nineteenth- and twentieth- century Brazilian literature and is among the foremost experts on Brazil's most prestigious literary figure, Machado de Assis. The author of five monographs, the editor of seven volumes, three translated books and thirty-nine articles, prefaces, and book chapters, Professor Guimarães serves as one of the chief editors of the online journal Machado de Assis Em Linha.
