press release: PhotoMidwest's Festival 2016 marks its ninth biennial celebration of photographic arts in the Midwest and the second festival in collaboration with Madison's Overture Center for the Arts. This is also the second festival in which PhotoMidwest has required artists to be from the geographical area defining the Midwest: North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana,Ohio and Missouri.
For the PMW Festival 2016 Juried Exhibit, 49 images were selected from over 400 submissions by the noted photographer and professor of photography, Larry Fink. The exhibit will be displayed in Galleries 1 & 2 of the Overture Center and feature 37 Midwest photographers from seven of the states in the region. The Festival's Juried Exhibit will open Sept. 13 and close Dec. 4. There will be a reception, juror talk and walk through by Mr. Fink Friday evening, Oct. 7 starting at 6 in the exhibition's galleries and the Promenade Lounge at the Overture Center.
The Festival will also feature and exhibit of David Travis' work in a show titled Passersby at the new PhotoMidwest studios and galleries from Oct. 2–Oct. 28. A Retrospective of the late Joseph Jachna's work will be featured in the galleries of Sundance Cinemas Madison at Hilldale Mall in Madison from Oct. 1–Nov. 31. As part of the Festival's Focus weekend, Bob Thall will speak on the influence of Mr. Jachna as a teacher and photographer on Sunday, Oct. 9 at the Pyle Center on the UW campus from 11:15-noon. This event requires a Focus Weekend Pass, The exhibit at Sundance is free and open to the public
