If you're wary of how quickly Madison is sprouting new electronic acts, be grateful so few lapse into staccato-cool dance music. Chants hide percussive tripwires in even their steadiest beats, All Tiny Creatures create intricate stacks of repeated phrases, and so on.
Beau Devereaux's project Samantha Glass is likewise patient with rhythm on the Midnight Arrival EP. Devereaux favors confident melodies and, often, moderate tempos, letting the bass lines and deceptively minimal synths of "Dakota Shadows" settle into an affable swing. On "Human Voice," project member Willie Thurlow crafts a glittering keyboard part that anchors a far-off-sounding lead guitar. Some of the percussion sounds have a deliberately tinny quality, and Devereaux balances them with languidly catchy synth parts, most engagingly on "Antique Horizon" and "Snow Covered Love." Samantha Glass' music has a home-recorded fuzziness, and it doesn't get polished away on Midnight Arrival.
