Lords of the Trident have serious musical chops.
BandSwap, a musical exchange program sponsored by the Colorado-based nonprofit SpokesBuzz, will feature Madison acts for a second time in 2014. This week SpokesBuzz announced that it has chosen five local bands for this year's sonic adventure, which includes a trip to Fort Collins for one lucky group, album-release parties for several others, and a variety of performances and networking opportunities.
The Madison band headed to Fort Collins are Lords of the Trident, a metal group known for their humorous stage act, which pokes fun at tropes and stereotypes associated with their genre. Though Lords of the Trident have been cracking up local audiences for several years, they've also developed serious musical chops. Each Lord will receive a stipend to defray the cost of traveling to Colorado, where they'll perform with bands from other music-minded cities such as Portland, Ore., Athens, Ga., and Asheville, N.C. in the fall.
Lords of the Trident will join Stella Luce, a string-fueled electronic act from Fort Collins, and Madison's 2013 BandSwap representatives, Sexy Ester, for a concert at the Frequency on Sept. 20. Other local BandSwap events will feature Broadway-loving rock band I Saw the Creature, blues rockers Mojo Radio, singer-songwriter Sam Lyons and folk-rock group the Wells Division.
