UP: Union Corners. The long vacant 11.5-acre parcel - Madison's largest undeveloped inner-city property - could finally see some activity, with city plans to buy it using $3.3 million from the city's land-bank fund. The price is a bargain - the property is assessed at $4.5 million. If approved, the east-side parcel could then be sold to a developer. "The city can be patient," Mayor Dave Cieslewicz tells the Wisconsin State Journal. "We expect we will get all of our money back."
DOWN: Ken Kratz. The Calumet County district attorney, disgraced last week by revelations that he sent sexually suggestive texts to a woman whose boyfriend he was prosecuting, has since been accused by three other women of similar harassment. Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen calls Kratz's conduct "appalling" (see article, 9/20/10), and Gov. Jim Doyle is pursuing removal proceedings. Some journalists, meanwhile, are referring to Kratz as "the gift that keeps on giving."
