Sports rivalries between Wisconsin and Minnesota go well beyond collegiate football and hockey. One recent source of enmity between the borders comes in the form of the Dairyland Dolls. This all-star team for the Mad Rollin' Dolls -- the city's four team roller derby league -- has defeated the Minnesota Rollergirls three times in the last two months. The latest victory came last weekend on Oct. 21 in the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in St. Paul, where the Dolls won by 96 points to Minnesota's 80. Not only was this bout broadcast live online, however, but one segment of it was captured on video.
This two minute video clip features Dairyland Dolls jammer Jenny Knoxville breaking through Minnesota's pack.
In league competition, Knoxville sports #16 on her jersey as a jammer for the brilliantly green Quad Squad (MySpace page). A report on the 2006 season opener for the league details a battle between the Squad and the Unholy Rollers, noting her frequent "text-book 4 point jams" through the bout. The Mad Rollin' Dolls were also victorious in their previous match-up against Minnesota, which was for third place at Bumberbout in Seattle. Photos, stats and scores from this tournament are available here.
