Charity and collaboration coalesce at Wintersong, the third edition of an annual benefit concert that features an impressive lineup of local folk musicians. These artists visited the Isthmus office last week to record a special holiday edition of Isthmus Live Sessions.
The featured track, simply titled "Wintersong," combines the musicians' own melodies with new lyrics related to the show.
For example, Count This Penny's Amanda and Allen Rigell reference "Pitchman," the title track from their 2012 album, when they sing that "it's cold upon the houses," and Anna Vogelzang's lines ("What if there is not enough / to feed those who've got it rough?") are set to the tune of "Die Trying" from her 2012 release, Canary in a Coal Mine.
"Paul Otteson did the arrangement for the first Wintersong in 2012, and we've kept the tradition going," says Vogelzang.
The third annual Wintersong will be at the Barrymore Theatre on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. All proceeds go to the Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin.
