Alterra Coffee Roasters arrives in Madison.
The new Alterra Coffee Roasters cafe at 25 S. Pinckney St., on the ground floor of the Tenney Building, will open this Friday, April 5. Invited customers will be able to get their caffeine fix at a soft opening Thursday afternoon, though.
In addition to coffee from the popular Milwaukee-based roaster, there will be in-house bakery items, food, and two house beers, One Tun IPA and Cortado Imperial Stout, a collaboration between Alterra and Madison's Peter Gentry (of One Barrel Brewing).
Food carts that have long parked in front of the Tenney Building moved this week, across the street to 33 E. Main. This is due to Alterra's plan for outdoor seating at the corner of Main and Pinckney. Carts affected are Wei's Food to Go and Blowin' Smoke Barbecue. City vending coordinator Warren Hansen affirms that the carts did not mind moving.
This is the first location in Madison for Alterra. As Isthmus contributor Kyle Nabilcy notes, the opening marks a step towards regional growth for the coffee company.
