West is best
I applaud the folks at Bendyworks for thinking of a way to inculcate tech companies in downtown Madison east side ("Bendyworks' Big Idea," 10/19/2012). There is already a burgeoning tech area on the west side of the Capitol Square, so perhaps it makes more sense to explore building up this area. In the 600 blocks of West Washington and West Main are a number of tech startups, including Asthmapolis, SnowShoe, Vidmaker and StudyBlue, as well as more established companies like Earth IT and Microsoft. The Bassett neighborhood is also closer to UW than the near east side, allowing for more convenient access to all that the university has to offer a startup, and vice versa.

I think the two-minute-soundbite political TV ads should be abolished! The best way to learn about candidates is candidates' forums - especially neighborhood forums run by the League of Women Voters.
Reading "Candidates' Answers" (in Isthmus, 10/26/2012) is another good way to learn about the candidates. Even a "No Reply" tells you something! Educate yourself before voting!

Congratulations on including the League of Women Voters' guide in your paper and on your coverage of this election. The nonpartisan League has taken a strong stand in support of the right to vote. Republicans in the state Assembly and Senate have been fighting to restrict voting access. That is one reason I am supporting Tammy Baldwin, since Tommy Thompson may follow his party to support Supreme Court and other justices who want to restrict basic voting rights as well as abortion and even birth control.

I read "Candidates Answers" and was amazed only one Republican candidate bothered to return a questionnaire. I believe this shows how little the GOP's candidates care about the public.
