The Associated Press reports that Edward W. Edwards, the 77-year-old man who confessed to two double homicides, including those of Wisconsin sweethearts Tim Hack and Kelly Drew in 1980, also admitted killing his foster son in 1996. Edwards told the AP he killed Dannie Boy Edwards in a cemetery in Burton, Ohio, with a 20-gauge shotgun. Edwards says he's confessing to the murder now because he wants the death penalty.
Fred Mohs and Eugene Devitt file a lawsuit against Madison, seeking to overturn a certificate of appropriateness granted to the Edgewater redevelopment project. The lawsuit claims the city arbitrarily applied the law in overturning a decision by the Landmarks Commission in May.

Gov. Jim Doyle picks state corrections deputy secretary Ismael Ozanne as Dane County district attorney, filling the position being vacated by Brian Blanchard, who was elected court of appeals judge.
A criminal complaint against Ke'Andre Frazier, 17, is filed in Dane County Circuit Court, revealing that Frazier allegedly stomped Lorenzo McKittrick to death on June 13 behind a Fitchburg shopping plaza for his sneakers and cell phone. Frazier purportedly told police he was angry because no one in his family would pick him up at the bus stop.
Madison cops raid two homes on the city's south side on the 1800 block of Fisher Street, cracking down on what they call an open-air drug market. Thirty to 40 officers execute the raid, arresting six people.

Nearly 100 people naked or with little clothing bike from South Park Street to the Capitol Square, promoting bicycling, body acceptance and energy conservation. The cyclists start out naked but are ordered to put on clothing as they near the Square. Ten people are charged with disorderly conduct.

Jefferson County Circuit Judge William Hue sentences Edward W. Edwards to two life sentences for murdering Tim Hack and Kelly Drew in 1980. Drew's mother, Norma Walker, tells Edwards, "You are a lying, evil murderer, and God is saving a special place in hell just for you."
About 200 parishioners of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Platteville meet with Madison Bishop Robert Morlino, questioning his decision to bring in three priests from the conservative Spanish order Society of Jesus the Priest. At other churches in the diocese, priests from the order have prohibited girls from being altar servers and lay people from dispensing Communion.
Five tornados touch down in Wisconsin, including one in Cross Plains in Dane County. The twisters destroy 25 homes and damage 100.

State lawmakers say they may have to reduce a childcare rating system because it is expected to cost $64 million through 2015, which could drain the state's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families budget.
