The Real World of Pirates series

Recent interest in pirates has resulted in numerous new books on the subject. The Real World of Pirates series is one of the better nonfiction collections. These six titles provide interesting facts about treasure, the pirate code, ships and hideouts. Did you know that the famous pirate Blackbeard put lit cannon fuses in his hair to make it look like his head was on fire to scare ships into surrendering? The short length of each book is great for reluctant readers, but also makes these books a great choice for pleasure reading as well as school reports. The illustrations are a mix of paintings and drawings from the time period. This series is a great choice for kids in grades 3-5 looking for a pirate adventure.
