Now that we've all settled into our autumn routine, we have some time before the hectic holiday season begins. Not a lot: Thanksgiving is only seven weeks away. But that's enough time to have some fun, and we're ready to spring some on you, in the form of two contests.
The first, open to everyone, is a photography contest. The theme is "That's Sooo Madison." In other words we're looking for iconic shots that fulfill that phrase, in its broadest sense.
Entries must be submitted in jpeg form at TheDailyPage.com/photocontest. The deadline for entries is Nov. 9. There will be two prizewinners, the prizes being a Casio EX-Z300 camera or a $150 gift card for photo lab services, both provided by contest sponsor the Camera Company. Some of the photos submitted will appear in an Isthmus photo feature; others will appear on the website. For more information, see the ad on page 33.
The other contest is a revival of Band-to-Band Combat, which we ran with some success a few years ago. This involves bands being judged by the listening public. It runs through TheDailyPage.com and ends with a live face-off at the Frequency on Nov. 19, the week before Thanksgiving.
Bands have until Oct. 16 to enter. They can do so by going to TheDailypage.com/bandtoband and uploading an mp3 to the site. We're also asking for a band photo and 250-word description. All music must be original, no covers, and, of course, permissions must be granted. Prizes are coming from Paradyme Productions (a 10-hour demo recording package) and vipdubs (100 CD dubs with cases and inserts). We'll start the voting on Oct. 29. For more information, again see the ad. This one appears on page 28.
Madison in pictures and sound - that's what we're after. And we know just who can provide it - you. Happy contesting!
