Today's image is titled ridin' with chuck and was photographed by Kandy Watson.
This photo shows Richard Wiegel of The Midwesterners playing at Stella's Speakeasy in downtown Stoughton on the evening of Saturday, March 24. Here's the latest from the leader of the 16-year-old "honk and twang" Americana quartet:
Well it's spring 2007, we always feel we dodged a bullet when the winter in Wisconsin was not too bad. We had a pretty good year in 2006; we released our third album, Ridin' With Chuck" which got some very nice reviews in Isthmus and Rick's CafÃ; we opened for Delbert McClinton at the Barrymore and have another opening gig coming up in April at the Barrymore with Marcia Ball; we placed in the Isthmus poll for Madison's favorite country band; we'll be playing a song at the Madison Area Music Awards in May, and we have some very nice gigs coming up this summer, both for the band and myself.
The show at the Barrymore featuring Marcia Ball is set for this Saturday, April 7. Also, although the lineup has not been formally announced yet, two of the groups playing at the MAMAs show in May are now known: The Midwesterners and The Dorothy Heralds (as noted here).
What else do The Midwesterners have in store for this year? 'As we go into the new year we are hoping to add a live album to our resume, sooner rather than later we hope,' Wiegel notes. 'Personally I hope to do another solo record also, and I'll once again be at the Wisconsin Opry this summer in Wisconsin Dells and I'll be doing occasional gigs with the Swing Crew.'
