Today's image is titled Orcas on Lake Monona and was photographed by Karen Darcy.
The photo shows 'killer whale statues on the frozen lake by artist Tim Browning," says Darcy. Browning was one of the original members of the UW Pail & Shovel Party, a situationalist student government gang at the UW-Madison nearly 30 years ago, responsible for spectacles like the famous faux-immersed State of Liberty on Lake Mendota and the forest of pink flamingos on Bascom Hill. More details about these orcas can be found in a Melanie Conklin column published in the State Journal on Feb. 16.
