Right now I'm listening to the "MadFiber Cabal" (their term, not mine) give their presentation on the city's campaign to bring Google Fiber to Madison.

One very insightful commenter makes a good case for fiber. She compares it to infrastructure. Even if you don't use it, its improvement benefits you through the goods it brings and the business it entices.
