Madison Public Library

Since moving to a temporary location last year in advance of renovations to its home on West Mifflin, frequent visitors to the Madison Central Library have no doubt felt a piece of their lives missing, be it in the form of a favorite door handle or metal shelf. But for a limited time, those who wish to reclaim a portion of the library for themselves can do so through a public sale of the building's various accessories and materials.
The library is liquidating a variety of salvagable objects and building materials, working with the Madison Environmental Group to keep as much out of the landfill as possible. Among the numerous items for sale on Craigslist, prospective buyers will be able to choose from upholstered chairs, metal coat racks, chalkboards, "beautiful wood," metal cabinets, and curtain dividers, all waiting to become a part of your home or office decor!
Many of the items feature detailed and humorous descriptions that are worth a read, even if you have no interest in adding two map cases to your living room.
Here, for example, is the description for a drinking fountain up for sale:
Drinking fountains, water fountains, bubblers, whatever you want to call them, they are great. Perfect for a school, office, daycare, or really cool home whose owners are averse to unnecessarily washing drinking glasses!
'Water is the essence of wetness, and wetness is the essence of life.' Bonus points if you can name that movie!
So act now if you wish to add a piece of the old Madison Central Library to your home! Interested parties can reply to the emails provided for each item, but keep in mind that shoppers will be responsible for the removal and transportation of all items purchased over the week of February 6. That means if you're seriously considering adding a wall safe to your home, make sure you bring the crow bar and wheelbarrow to remove it.
