Crunk is a rap subgenre that gained popularity in recent years for its club-friendly surges of adrenaline. Atlanta-based rapper Lil' Scrappy became associated with the genre in 2004, when he collaborated with Trillville on the King of Crunk album, infused with the Caribbean influences of producer Lil' Jon. This year, Lil' Scrappy joined G-Unit, the crew that includes 50 Cent.
His current solo release is a darker version of crunk that fails to yield the energy of his previous recordings. An exception is the single "Gangsta, Gangsta," which again features the production work of Lil' Jon and raises the question of which Lil' artist is the real big deal. There's also the small detail of more "N" words than even Michael Richards would say, and that's no adrenaline rush at all.
