Today's highlighted Madison musical group is Queenie & the Blue Cats.
Focusing on blues and blues-rock -- everything from classics to standards to the contemporary -- Queenie & the Blue Cats' style is jazzy and electric. The band cites The 3 Kings, John Mayall, Paul Butterfield, Jimi Hendrix, Robert Johnson, John Lee Hooker, and Buddy Guy as high on the list of their musical loves. Led by Queenie (also known as Susan McCarter-Wade), the Blue Cats consist of guitarist Joe Dieter, drummer Rich Kaye, and bassist Scott Lukomski, with many more details about their backgrounds and talents available here.
There's much more about the group at queenieandthebluecats.com. This includes nine sound bites (MP3s) from their sampler CD, a partial song list, and a photo gallery displaying snaps from a few of their 2006 shows.
There is only one chance to see the band in Madison before the new year. On Saturday, Oct. 21, Queenie and her cats will be performing at the Bourbon Street Grille in Monona.; the music starts at 9 p.m. and there's no cover. After this, their next scheduled shows are in Jan. and Feb. of 2007, set for JT Whitney's and the High Noon Saloon. The band also regularly plays at blues and other festivals, including recent editions of the Terrace Blues Festival and Bratfest. More information can be found from the Madison Blues Society.
