Adam Gregory Pergament is a local poet who doesn't want his verses to live on paper. He's spent years expressing his work via local music, first in Stonefloat and more recently Venice Gas House Trolley.
His poetic voice is formidable, and finding musicians capable of forging the right kind of sonic support hasn't always been easy.
It's a challenge Pergament meets on his latest album, thanks to the skillful bass guitar of both Tim Peeters and Kevin Arthur Knapp and the percussion of Josh Pultorak. The Trolley carves out a tribal, ambient, dreamy vibe that doesn't feel like the intersection of poetry and music, but stands as an integrated whole. You can hear it as words and guitar rise together on "Garden."
Venice Gas House Trolley are no longer a spoken-word act struggling to become. They're a musical group that have finally arrived.
