Dave Hause
Dave Hause is on a roll. Liberated in his sobriety, fueled with gratitude for a growing family, he writes classic rock 'n roll songs that celebrate strength of will and the power of love. But it’s not all lovey-dovey. Hause’s sound is steeped in the hardcore punk scene of his youth in Philadelphia. Will Hoge plucked members from Brandi Carlile and Jason Isbell’s bands for the recording of Hause’s newest album, Blood Harmony, created in Nashville. With an opening set by Milwaukee-based singer-songwriter Trapper Schoepp, who is one of the few persons who shares a songwriting credit with Bob Dylan.
$25 ($20 adv.).
media release: Philadelphia-bred singer-songwriter Dave Hause is on tour throughout 2022 in support of his critically acclaimed new album, Blood Harmony. Produced by celebrated singer-songwriter Will Hoge, Blood Harmony features a first class assemblage of musicians consisting of members of The E Street Band, Brandi Carlile, Sheryl Crow, Carrie Underwood, Vince Gill, Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, Eric Church and more. Beneath the surface of Blood Harmony are multiple layers of meaning related to Hause’s role as a musician, a brother, a husband, a son and—having become a father to twins a few months before the release of 2019’s Kick—a dad. Created with his younger brother and longstanding writing partner, Tim Hause, and released on their very own label, Blood Harmony also presents itself as a meaningful reassertion of what family means to them all.
You can hear Hause’s passion and dedication to his craft—as well as his determined approach to it—flowing through the veins of Blood Harmony’s ten stunning, sumptuous songs. Written with his brother over a series of weekly Zoom sessions, they began crafting songs together in January 2021. They’d been writing remotely together since 2017’s Bury Me In Philly so it wasn’t an entirely new process for them.
They traveled with 10 songs to Nashville where acclaimed songwriter Will Hoge took up the helm of producer. Through Hoge’s connections, what Hause calls “a staggering bunch of musicians” was assembled to flesh out the songs he and Tim had written. He’s not wrong–there was Brandi Carlile’s drummer Chris Powell, Bruce Springsteen and The E Street band bassist Garry Tallent, acclaimed session guitarist Tom Bukovac, Jason Isbell’s guitarist Sadler Vaden, and keyboardists Billy Justineau, who’s mainly worked with country superstars Eric Church and Brothers Osborne, Mike Webb, whose credits range from Chris Stapleton to John Prine, and Jen Gunderman, Sheryl Crow’s keyboard player.
It’s impossible to not hear and feel just how much Hause and his whole family—that beating heart at the center of these songs—mean to him. It’s a truly beautiful thing.
