media release: Emma Dayhuff presents "Refined Elegance: A Tribute to Chicago"
feat. Kahil El'Zabar, Dee Alexander, and Isaiah Collier
Emma has spent the last few years exploring aesthetic elements unique to Chicago’s avant-garde jazz scene, and how generational mentorship has supported avenues to individuality, purpose, and community. In honor of the mentorship she has received from Chicago's musical community that has shaped her musical style, Emma presents original and arranged music inspired by Chicago's unique history and the people who have supported her journey. Joining Emma are three of Chicago's most formidable and dynamic musical artists.
Kahil El’Zabar, one of the founders of the spiritual jazz movement in the 1970s, holds an irreplaceable spot in Chicago history as well as continuing his visionary work for the future of Chicago’s artistic community.
Dee Alexander is one of Chicago's most preeminent and creative vocalists and has mentored many upcoming young women in the scene.
Saxophonist Isaiah Collier is one of the brightest young stars in Chicago. He has released three records, the second of which received a Grammy nomination in 2021 and five stars in Downbeat Magazine.
